Biography

I am a visual artist working in the areas of drawing and painting. I was born in Avoca in County Wicklow, grew up in Kerry and now live on the Cork/Waterford border area.

I am a graduate of MTU Crawford College of Art and Design with a B.A. (Honours) in Fine Art.
I have studied animation in Ballyfermot College of Further Education, Dublin and drawing in St. Johns Central College, Cork.

I am currently undertaking a Masters by Research with MTU in Cork. The thesis question is investigating Contemplation in the Art Process in the Irish context. The prehistoric megalithic carvings of the passage tomb at Knowth in the World Heritage Site at Brú na Bóinne, the impact of public engagement art events and the beneficial effects of slow art as a response to societal technological immersion, all feature in the landscape of this research.

I have a Licentiate in Chinese Medicine, completing my studies in Dublin and Nanjing, China. Detailed knowledge of the movement and the flow of the physical body and the energy systems that support it, is a fundamental understanding which supports my life drawing practice.

My background as a trained musician is also an inspiration and stimulus in my art making; I am an All Ireland winning Irish harpist having performed and toured in Australia and played in the National Concert Hall, Dublin.

Painting and drawing is an embodied practice for me and is informed by over twenty years of meditation and reflection in the Vietnamese Zen Tradition.
